A study compared the effects of 8 weeks BP control using amlodipine and cilnidipine on hemodynamic parameters and vascular indices in mild to moderate hypertensive patients. In all, 60 patients were enrolled in the study. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either amlodipine or cilnidipine for a period of eight weeks. BP, heart rate (HR), carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf PWV), augmentation index (AIx) and aortic augmentation pressure (AoAP) were measured at baseline and at the end of study period. The L/N-type calcium channel antagonist cilnidipine was found to have a similar antihypertensive action to amlodipine, but was superior in improving arterial stiffness. The findings were published in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research.
